~ Experiencing place through connection and dissociation, longing and grief. Susan Sontag wrote that “we are what we are able to see (hear, taste, smell, feel) even more profoundly than we are what furniture of ideas we have stored in our heads” (1966). How do unique sensory experiences reflect our relationships with spaces and absences? The films in this programme are rooted in meditations on living in an interconnected world of human and more-than-human, the present and the unknown. They are all encounters with spaces inhabited by objects, creatures, and infinitely varied affective responses. Spaces as convergence of inner identities and tangible reflections.

já passei tantos dias a olhar o sol terminar de se mostrar neste topo. a sombra surgir. quando criança tinha um medo de crescer e perder a visão de imensidão que isso me trazia. foi esse olhar que me fez entender, mesmo sem palavras, o que hoje guia parte desses dias de investigação: a imensidão é um tema poético inesgotável. um viva aos lugares. aos mil lugares. aos muitos que existem dentro de um. ao um que deixa de ser um com o passar do tempo, mas que não deixa de ser ele mesmo.

Faz já um ano do filme “Na antessala da consciência” e trago este vídeo dos últimos minutos de filmagem para relembrar a agitação em aproveitar os últimos respiros de sol daquele dia. Todo o glamour da minha corrida desengonçada, meias trocadas e pele queimada pelos mais de trinta graus daqueles dias de filmagem. Foi um privilégio estar no Brasil e ter minha família junta para a gravação, todos estavam ali, a segurar equipamentos, carregar mobiliários, me proteger do sol com guarda chuva, água fresca a toda hora, pular cercas, correr das vacas e tantas mais lembranças. Que jeito bom de lembrar que todos nós vivemos bem, nesse cantinho cenário de tantas memórias.

It has been a year since the movie “In the Antechamber of Consciousness,” and I bring this video of the final minutes of filming to remember the rush to enjoy the last breaths of sunshine that day. All the glamour of my clumsy run, mismatched socks, and sunburned skin by more than thirty degrees in those days of filming. It was a privilege to be in Brazil and have my family together for the shoot. They were all there, holding equipment, carrying furniture, protecting me from the sun with umbrellas, providing fresh water at all times, jumping fences, running from cows, and so many more memories. What a wonderful way to remember that we all lived well in that little place, a setting of so many memories.
