Sally Santiago is a Brazilian artist and researcher living in Porto/Portugal, where she is developing her PhD research in Fine Arts.
Using video, installation, and photography to elevate the movements of existence to a conscious surface, the artist presents profound reflections on the nature of life and art itself. By engaging in dialogues about the body and space - their relationship and inhabitation - their experiments traverse the realms of art and philosophy, intertwining to reveal immaterial reflections between human existence and its connection with the world around.
She is part of the doctoral programme in Fine Arts at FBAUP, has a master's degree in contemporary artistic creation (UA/PT) and a bachelor's degree in communication (UAM/ BR). In 2023 she was one of the artists selected for the publication of the book Portuguese Emerging Art 2023 - PEA'23, published by EMERGE - Associação Cultural and launched at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) in Lisbon. In 2022 he received two honourable mentions for two of her videos, at the XII Vila Verde International Biennial of Young Art and at the Aveiro Young Creator Competition. She has taken part in group exhibitions at Washington Dulles International Airport/US, Atelier and Galeria Porta o Porto, Instituto de Medicina Molecular de Lisboa, Marvão Academy, Árvore das Virtudes, Porta Jazz Galeria, FBAUL Gallery, Museu de Aveiro/Santa Joana, Biblioteca de Odemira, Cabe 184 and Cultivamos Cultura. In addition to the solo exhibition at Livraria Térmita - Espaço Armazém and the recent curatorial work for the exhibition "Reimaginados", for Ectopia - Laboratoria de Arte Experimental, in Lisbon. Her work has also been shown at film and video festivals in the experimental category, such as FUSO International Video Art Festival (PT), Porto FEMME International Film Festival (PT), Aparição/ Desaparição Festival (BR) and Alternative Film Festival (UK). Since 2022, she has been a member of the organising committee for the FEMeeting: Woman in arts, science and technology conference.
Since 2021 she is part of the team of the cultural institutions Cultivamos Cultura and Ectopia Laboratório de Arte Experimental. Before that, in 2020, she collaborated with the Centre of Contemporary Art in Christchurch (NZ).
Sally Santiago é uma artista e pesquisadora brasileira que vive em Porto/Portugal, onde desenvolve sua investigação de Doutoramento em Artes Plásticas.
Utilizando o vídeo, a instalação e a fotografia em busca de elevar movimentos da existência à uma superfície consciente, apresenta reflexões profundas sobre a natureza da vida e da própria arte. Ao dialogar sobre o corpo e o espaço - seu relacionar e habitar - suas experimentações caminham entre a arte e a filosofia, um estrelaçar que aponta para reflexos imateriais entre a existência humana e sua conexão com o mundo ao redor.
Faz parte do programa de doutoramento em Artes Plásticas da FBAUP, possui mestrado em criação artística contemporânea (UA/PT) e bacharel em comunicação social (UAM/ BR). Em 2023 foi uma das artistas selecionadas para a publicação do livro Portuguese Emerging Art 2023 - PEA’23, editado pela EMERGE - Associação Cultural e lançado no Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea (MNAC), em Lisboa. Em 2022 recebeu duas menções honrosas em dois de seus vídeos, pela XII Bienal Internacional de Arte Jovem de Vila Verde e pela Competição Competition Aveiro Jovem Criador. Participou de exposições coletivas no Washington Dulles International Airport/US, no Atelier e Galeria Porta o Porto, Instituto de Medicina Molecular de Lisboa, Marvão Academy, Árvore das Virtudes, Porta Jazz Galeria, FBAUL Gallery, Museu de Aveiro/Santa Joana, Biblioteca de Odemira, Cabe 184 e Cultivamos Cultura. Além da exposição individual na Livraria Térmita - Espaço Armazém e da recente curadoria à exposição “Reimaginados”, para a Ectopia - Laboratoria de Arte Experimental, em Lisboa. Seus trabalhos tem sido exibidos também em festivais de cinema e vídeos em categoria experimental, como FUSO International Video Art Festival (PT), Porto FEMME International Film Festival (PT), Aparição/ Desaparição Festival (BR) e Alternative Film Festival (UK). Desde 2022 integra o comitê de organização da conferências FEMeeting: Woman in arts, science and technology.
Desde 2021 faz parte da equipa das instituições culturais Cultivamos Cultura e Ectopia Laboratório de Arte Experimental. Tendo antes disso, em 2020, colaborado com o Centre of Contemporary Art em Christchurch (NZ).
